the grocery store chain will move to reusable and paper bags exclusively.
PITTSBURGH, PA - Giant Eagle is expected to begin phasing out the use of single-use plastic bags and items starting in January. The transition, expected to be formally announced Tuesday, will be completed by 2025.
According to a release, Giant Eagle is making the move for environmental reasons. The company has noted that 99 percent of the 14 billion plastic bags used in America each year are discarded after one use.
The grocery chain is expected to begin selling reusable bags.
