Here are the top stories today in Pittsburgh:
1) Kansas, the classic rock band, will kick off its 50-city lineup of shows in Pittsburgh. The tour celebrate the band's 50th anniversary this year. Their local performance will take place at the Benedum Center on June 2. Attendees can expect to hear hits such such as "Carry On Wayward Son," "Dust In The Wind" and "Point Of Know Return," all of which were staples on rock radio stations in the 1970s and '80s. Tickets and Kansas VIP Packages for most dates go on sale to the public on Jan. 27. Ticket information can be found here.
2) Spring-like weather conditions in the Pittsburgh area are coming to an end. According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Pittsburgh area from 3 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday. The advisory cautions locals to expect two to four inches of snow, and winds will gust as high as 40 mph. On Wednesday, the weather service is advising that snow showers and sleet will occur before the precipitation changes to rain. Drive carefully on slippery road conditions during Wednesday morning commutes.
3) A local business owner has had enough of the ruckus caused by Pittsburgh Public Schools students at their bus stop near his business, and is demanding action from the district. George Mowod pleaded with the board to move a bus stop outside of his Murray Avenue karate studio during a Pittsburgh Public Schools hearing Monday night. "One day, five boys came into my karate studio and challenged me to a fight," Mowod said. "Having the bus stop in front of our building is ruining the neighborhood. Ruining our businesses, frightening our customers. It's like having a ghetto in the heart of a wonderfully safe neighborhood community." Up to 50 Taylor Allderdice students could be seen in front of his building at any given time, waiting for their bus. "Last week, the kids broke my large play glass front window of my karate studio. $975 to replace. Every day, they litter and more," Mowod said. Mowod says Pittsburgh Police and the building's landlord have reached out to Pittsburgh Public Schools as well as Port Authority, but that they were told no one has the authority to change the bus stop except for the district.
4) A car drove through the front of a Castle Shannon restaurant yesterday afternoon. The crash occurred at Time Out Time Eat, located on Mt. Lebanon Boulevard. A video posted to the restaurant's Facebook page showed a white sedan's crash had taken out the front doors of the restaurant along with additional damage to the foyer. Glass from the windows could be seen scattered across the ground. Police and firefighters responded to the scene. No one had to be taken to the hospital following the incident, according to Allegheny County dispatch.
5) Police are currently searching for their main suspect in a recent Monroeville hotel shooting. The man accused of shooting a 16-year-old at the Red Roof Inn is on the run, setting off a SWAT situation in Pittsburgh Sunday. The suspect is being charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, illegal possession of a firearm and criminal attempt. Police say he shot a teenage girl after she refused to have oral sex with him Saturday night. After shooting the victim in her upper thigh/hip region, he and one other male fled the scene, the complaint says. Police are investigating.
