PITTSBURGH, PA — A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with last month's Kennywood shooting that wounded three and will be charged as an adult.

Physical evidence linked Darryl Pirl to the shooting, Allegheny County police said at a news conference Thursday. He faces two charges of aggravated assault, firearms not to be carried without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor and recklessly endangering another person.

Witnesses reported two groups of juveniles were involved in an altercation, and then during the confrontation shots were fired. The shooter initially was described as a Black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a dark colored COVID-19 mask.

Those wounded included one 39-year-old adult male with a gunshot wound to the leg, one 15-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the leg and a second 15-year-old male with a grazing
wound to the leg. Pirl suffered the graze wound while shooting the gun, police said.

A handgun was discovered near the shooting scene by responding officers.

Kennywood since has doubled the number of police officers contracted through local law enforcement agencies for each night of its Phantom Fall Fest. Kennywod leadership now wears uniform red jackets to be more clearly visible.

Trees have been cut down along the park fence line bordering Route 837 to improve sight lines. New flood lights and security cameras are being installed for better monitoring, and ongoing
security patrols in that area will increase significantly.
