1. 1,200 Want UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital Concerns Addressed (patch.com) — Pittsburgh residents and more than two dozen local and state lawmakers are pressing UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital's board to open its October annual meeting for public comment on staffing, unionization, and patient care concerns. They argue the Pittsburgh-based hospital has not held a required public meeting since the pandemic and say nurses and patients need a direct forum to address working conditions and care quality.
   

2. Teen Hurt In 3-Story Fall In Pittsburgh (patch.com) — Pittsburgh officials report a teenager suffered a serious head injury after falling about three stories while doing roofing work on Bryant Street in Highland Park. Police and EMS responded late Thursday morning, and the teen was rushed to a hospital as authorities continue to assess the situation.
   

3. Pittsburgh-Area High Schooler Awarded For Pancreatic Cancer Research (patch.com) — A North Allegheny High School senior from the Pittsburgh area has earned a $50,000 Davidson Fellows Scholarship for pioneering a blood test that could help detect pancreatic cancer earlier and more easily. Her research, conducted while living and studying locally, uses magnetic nanospheres to capture cancer-related vesicles and has shown promising accuracy, while she also runs a nonprofit tackling food waste and hunger.
   

4. Veteran Pittsburgh TV Reporter Retires (patch.com) — Pittsburgh viewers are saying goodbye to longtime KDKA-TV reporter Ross Guidotti, whose last day on air comes Friday after decades covering major stories near and far. Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O'Connor even declared a special "Ross Guidotti Day," honoring the city native's impact on local journalism and his long connection to hometown audiences.
   

5. Pittsburgh Rivers Casino Poker Player Wins Huge Jackpot (patch.com) — Pittsburgh gamblers are buzzing after a woman at Rivers Casino hit a 7-card straight flush in Fortune Pai Gow Poker, triggering a $1.1 million progressive jackpot. The unidentified player also scored a Fortune Bonus payout, while two others at the same table each received an additional envy bonus, making it a memorable night on the North Shore.
