Students created a special certificate, and city public safety leaders say the gesture highlights officers' ongoing commitment to protecting children traveling to and from school.

National average price of gas set to break Labor Day record (wtae.com) — Pittsburgh drivers are paying about $4.35 per gallon this Labor Day, well above the already record-setting national average of $4.15, according to AAA. Residents describe cutting back on trips and consolidating errands as high crude oil prices keep fuel costs unusually steep for this time of year.
