Pittsburgh Air Quality Awful Yet Again

Expect another rough day for air quality in Western Pennsylvania.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code Orange air quality alert for the greater Pittsburgh region, including Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, Armstrong, Washington, Westmoreland and Fayette counties.

The alert is in effect for all of Wednesday.

A Code Orange alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Those groups include children, the elderly, and people suffering from asthma, heart disease, or other lung diseases.

As of Wednesday morning, the region's air quality index was at an unhealthy 151 level, according to AirNow.Gov. Air quality is expected to improve by Thursday.

The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding outdoor exercise or strenuous activity.

Temperature-wise, Wednesday and Thursday will be hot and humid, with expected highs near 90.
