Good morning, everybody! It's me, Rachel Tasker, your host of the Pittsburgh Daily — back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what's happening in town. Including updates on:

  • Tropical storm 'Nicole' remnants could trigger Pittsburgh flooding
  • Dance parties at P Town Bar, Trace, and more
  • Deadly shooting of restaurant employee inside Scott Township business

Let's go!

Mostly sunny and warm. High: 70 Low: 54.

Here are the top stories today in Pittsburgh:

1) Rain coming from former Hurricane Nicole is on its way to Pittsburgh. Though the heavy winds and rain have already been downgraded to a tropical storm, its remnants will definitely impact Southwestern Pennsylvania. State College-based AccuWeather predicts that two to four inches could fall between 5 a.m. and midnight on Friday. The National Weather Service is more conservative in its rainfall estimates, but still predicts the possibility of localized flooding on Friday. The Weather Channel predicts as much as two inches of rain will fall. After Nicole's exit, locals can expect considerably colder temperatures. The high on Saturday only is expected to be around 49 degrees; the high on Sunday is expected to top out at around 40.

2) Put on your dancing shoes, Pittsburgh. Here's a lineup of dance parties happening this weekend at local spaces. Starting tonight at 9 p.m., Brillobox will host Diamond Life: Left of the Dial 2 featuring indie, Britpop, glam, and New Wave dance tunes. On Friday at 9 p.m., Belvedere's will host The Modern Age with DJ Maimey and The Comeback Kid will be spinning all the aught-defining indie rock songs. On Saturday at 11 p.m., hit Hot Mass where Honcho's Clark Price joins forces with British DJ Midland for his return to Pittsburgh. Expect a night-long foray into deep house music. Round out the weekend on Sunday at Trace Brewing for Disco Sunday Disco. DJs Anthony Susan, Dini Daddy, and Jarrett Tebbets will be spinning all sub-genres of disco at Trace's outside garden. Trace will also unveil some new hot drinks.

3) A man has been arrested following a deadly shooting inside a Northwestern Mutual office on Cochran Road in Scott Township on Wednesday. Zairyre Mikhail Simmons, 23, of Pittsburgh, turned himself into police around 7:45 p.m., according to a news release from Allegheny County police. A warrant had been issued for his arrest, charging him with homicide and firearms violations. The victim has been identified in court documents as 32-year-old Dorian L. Carver of Natrona Heights. According to the criminal complaint, Simmons, a manager at Taco Bell, had written up Carver concerning company policy days prior. The complaint explains that on Wednesday, the two men argued about the write-up and had to be separated. Carver then left the Taco Bell and walked toward Northwestern Mutual, according to the complaint, and Simmons followed him. Detectives said a 40 caliber semi-automatic handgun was found behind a vacant building next to the Northwestern Mutual building. That gun matches a witness's description of the firearm used to shoot Carver twice. Witnesses reportedly saw Simmons run from the scene. Carver was pronounced dead at the scene.
