Here are the top stories in Pittsburgh today:
1) A local mother is seeking answers after learning that her son had allegedly been groped in his school's bathroom. Kayla Valorie pulled her son out of school at Propel Montour Elementary after he told her that an older student allegedly cornered him in the bathroom and made threatening comments and groped him. "Valorie said her son got away and immediately told a teacher, but she shared she and her husband were not notified. When she called the principal, she said he refused to tell her if an investigation would take place." At this time, Allegheny County police are investigating.
2) The Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium is asking the community for suggestions on what to name the newest member of their animal family: a baby girl gorilla. "The 32-year-old Pittsburgh lowland gorilla, Ibo, welcomed her baby girl on Feb. 14, and since early March, the zoo has been asking for name recommendations." This species of gorilla is considered critically endangered, so the birth of a new baby is exciting for the zoology community. The naming contest is also a fundraiser for the zoo; those who donate $5 will be able to suggest a name at this link until March 31.

3) The city of Pittsburgh will receive $3 million in state grant money for infrastructure projects. "The money included $500,000 for the city to purchase maintenance equipment, a street sweeper and trucks for the newly created bridge maintenance division." Another benefactor of a portion of the funding will help cover construction costs at a new Department of Public Works facility that will serve the city's South Hills neighborhoods, addressing resident complaints about how long it takes to clear their streets after snowfall. Also within the budget are complete streets renovation in Beechview, several other road projects, sidewalk improvements and work on the Davis Avenue Pedestrian Bridge, according to the state.

4) March Madness, NCAA's annual men's basketball tournament, will return to Pittsburgh in 2024. "According to the NCAA website, the city will host first and second round tournament games March 21-23 at PPG Paints Arena." Duquesne University will serve as the host institution. Pittsburgh will join New York City (Brooklyn), Charlotte, Indianapolis, Omaha, Salt Lake City, Spokane and Memphis as the cities set to host first and second round games next year.
5) Locals looking for a good laugh won't want to miss Steve Martin and Martin Short on their visit to Pittsburgh later this year. The comedic pair are bringing their "You Won't Believe What They Look Like Today!" tour to the Benedum Center on Sept. 15 and 16 at 8 p.m. Jeff Babko and the Steep Canyon Rangers will open the show. According to a Monday press release, the Martin-Short tandem performance "is a show that redefines the form in unexpected and profound ways, from two of the funniest, most influential, and acclaimed talents of the past century.
