Pittsburgh Shootings Continue: 17-Year-Old Shot In Head, Later Dies

A shooting in the city's Beechview neighborhood Wednesday claimed the life of a teen.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The spate of shooting violence in the city continued Wednesday, with a 17-year-old boy died after being shot in the head in Beechview.

Clayton Tierney was shot about 4:20 p.m. in a home in the 1700 block of Broadway Avenue, authorities said. He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian in critical condition, but died hours later.

No arrests have been made in the incident. Pittsburgh police did not name any suspects.

The shooting was the latest in an alarming trend of recent shootings in the city.

Three people were shot last week in the city's Carrick neighborhood. Police took a man to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds; a short time later, the other two victims self-transported to an area hospital.

Also last week, more than 13 shots were fired in the 7200 block of Kelly Street in Homewood. Responding police found a man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Additionally, a man was shot Oct. 16 at the intersection of East Carson Street and South 14th Street in the South Side. The victim, whom police say was wounded during an altercation, was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Just days before, three people died in a shooting on the city's North Side. Two of the three victims were innocent bystanders who were waiting to catch a bus and were hit by the gunfire.
