Pittsburgh Variety Store Slapped With Consumer Alert

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for the Family Dollar store in Lawrenceville.
An inspection on Friday found rice, jalapeño poppers, hot fries, and onion rings chewed through and with fresh rodent droppings in and around them while still being offered for sale.
Live mice were observed twice during the inspection.

An inspector observed fresh rodent droppings under the cereal, under the rice, in a bag of rice, under the oats,under the Ragu sauce, jalapeño poppers, in cardboard boxes storing hot fries, and on the ends of the aisles.
Rodent rub marks were observed on the lower shelves.

A dead mouse in a trap was found in the doors leading to the rear storage room.
The store remains open while the alert is in place.
