MontCo Opens Disaster Center in Conshohocken

The center aims to help area residents impacted by hurricane Irene.

A Disaster Recovery Center staffed by federal, state and county agencies is opening in Conshohocken on Wednesday to help residents and businesses that sustained damage during Hurricane Irene, according to a release from the county.

The center, which is located at the Montgomery County Public Training Campus at 1175 Conshohocken Road in the borough, will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will include representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, federal Small Business Administration, Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, Department of Environmental Protection, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Montgomery County Health Department, Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities and Aging and Adult Services, the statement says.

The release states that uninsured and under-insured homeowners, renters and businesses may be eligible to receive grants for temporary housing, home repair, home replacement and permanent housing construction. Those seeking funding can call FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or apply online at www.disasterassistance.gov for disaster assistance.

The department is only offering support for those impacted specifically by hurricane Irene, defined as damage sustained between August 26 and August 30.

FEMA has also dispatched Community Relations Specialists to affected communities in Montgomery County.  These personnel are going door to door within your community, meeting with residents who have been adversely affected by flooding. These individuals are clearly identified by FEMA shirts and ID badges.
