Police: Local Man Facing Felony Drug Charges after Pot Found in Car

25-year-old charged with three felony counts after Monday night traffic stop.

Police have charged Tyrone Griffin, 25, of Plymouth Meeting, with multiple felony counts of intent to distribute and misdemeanor charges of possession after they say they found marijuana, packaging supplies, and over $1000 in cash inside his vehicle.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, a Plymouth Police officer was parked near the 600 block of Germantown Pike Monday night when he saw a black Chevrolet Impala drive past with its left and right brake lights out. The officer began following the vehicle, as it drove aggressively onto a number of the side roads and then back on Germantown Pike, speeding through several intersections, police said.

The officer eventually initiated a stop in the parking lot of the Plymouth Rock Apartments. The officer approached the vehicle and observed a clear, ripped plastic bag at Griffin's feet, two cell phones on his person, and what the officer suspected to be marijuana strewn across Griffin's lap and center console, the report said. The officer cuffed and detained Griffin as backup arrived. Upon looking into the vehicle again, officers observed a number of smoked blunts, a second bag of marijuana shoved between the seats, and loose pills in the center console, according to the report.

Griffin was taken into custody and on his person police found a cell phone and a roll of $1,228 in cash. According to the report, officers would later execute a search warrant of the vehicle and locate the following items:

1 50mg Tramadol Hydrochloride
9 800mg Ibuprofen
1 digital scale with suspected marijuana residue
5 smoked blunts
1 smoked joint
1 shopping bag containing three boxes of sandwich bags and smaller, clear plastic bags
1 black backpack containing loose small plastic bags

Griffin, of the 1900 block of Sandy Hill Road, was charged with three counts of intent to distribute, three counts of possession of a controlled substance, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, and multiple vehicle violations. He is currently confined to a county correctional facility in lieu of $5,000 bail.
