WPD Reports: Alleged Public Drunkenness at School, Bieber Ticket Scam

All information is according to official police reports filed at the Whitemarsh Township Police Department. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

DUI:
At approximately 12:59 .m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, a Whitemarsh Police officer responded to the report of a suspected DUI driver near the 500 block of Ridge Pike. According to a witness, a white sedan was driving recklessly on the roadway, cutting other drivers off and swerving into different lanes.

Upon locating the vehicle, a police officer observed it swerve and partially leave the roadway, and pulled the vehicle over. The officer had the driver, identified as a 23-year-old Norristown woman, perform several sobriety tests, which she failed, a police report said

The woman was taken into custody and transferred to an area hospital for blood alcohol tests.

Public Drunkenness:
At approximately 9:01 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, police were called to the Hey Diddle Diddle Day School on the 500 block of Bethlehem Pike, Fort Washington, for the report of public drunkenness. According to a police report, witnesses observed Charles Keyes, 42, of the 100 block of Equestrian Drive, New Hope, enter the building and tell “everyone to follow him,” before exiting and banging on the school’s door.

Upon arrival, police found Keyes to be extremely intoxicated and barely able to stand, and had him perform a breathalyzer test, which registered a .215 BAC, the reports says.

Energy company fraud:
At approximately 12:26 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, a resident of the 4000 block of Pilgrim Road, Plymouth Meeting, called police to report that she had been the victim of fraud.

According to the victim, someone had called IDT Energy and posed as her in order to switch to the utility. The woman became aware of the switch after she received a thank you letter from the company and also received a $300 bill from her actual utility provider, First Energy, for switching before the expiration of her contract.

The woman also said that on Oct. 18, she was approached by persons indentifying themselves as PECO representatives, who asked to see a copy of her bill and record her energy usage.

Fraudulent Bieber tickets transaction:
At approximately 1:30 p.m. on November 4, a Lafayette Hill family called Whitemarsh Police to report that someone had fraudulently taken their money in a would-be exchange for Justin Bieber tickets. According to the residents, they had made contact with a “Claire” via the website Craigslist, and arranged to pay $500 for four Justin Bieber concert tickets.

Claire explained via text message that she was a corrections officer living on the 200 block of Linden Street, Scranton, and that she could no longer take her kids to the concert since her mother had had a stroke. The Lafayette Hill family wired the money through a web site, but never received the tickets, despite Claire’s assurances that her computer was just acting “slow.”

The family identified Claire’s number as 954-842-0022.
