1. Teen Arrested After Violent Altercation with Scranton Police (audacy.com) — Scranton readers should know a 17-year-old girl was arrested early Sunday after allegedly fleeing officers in the Hill Section and violently resisting arrest while trying to pull a concealed handgun. Police say the chase ended on Taylor Avenue, where officers recovered a 9mm pistol with an extended magazine. Because she is a minor, authorities have not released her name or full list of charges.
   

2. Scranton Fire Department to repurpose decommissioned military vehicle to assist in water rescues (wnep.com) — Scranton's fire department is converting a decommissioned military brush truck into a high-water rescue vehicle to better handle neighborhood flooding and evacuations. The new truck joins multiple swift-water boats, a rescue trailer, and expanded firefighter training, giving Scranton residents stronger protection when rivers and creeks overflow across the city and surrounding Lackawanna County communities.
   

3. In the wake of major main breaks, Pennsylvania American Water says it will move up plans to replace aging downtown pipes (wnep.com) — Pennsylvania American Water is moving up a major project to replace one mile of aging water mains in downtown Scranton next spring, after disruptive main breaks this summer. The work will modernize key lines along North Washington Avenue and Mulberry Street, while a $50,000 grant to Scranton Tomorrow supports broader downtown improvements coordinated with upcoming streetscape plans.
   

4. Lackawanna County Court Notes, September 10, 2026 (thetimes-tribune.com) — Lackawanna County's latest court notes include several Scranton residents receiving marriage licenses, buying and selling city properties, and being named in new estate filings. From Quincy Avenue and N. Irving Avenue sales to local probate actions, these public records highlight ongoing changes in Scranton's neighborhoods and the wider county community.
   

5. Community Briefs 9/10/26 (thetimes-tribune.com) — Scranton residents can look forward to the Scranton Shakespeare Festival moving into a much larger, permanent home at Marywood University, including access to an outdoor amphitheater and new student collaborations. The move ends the troupe's nomadic years at the Marketplace at Steamtown and supports Marywood's goal of becoming a regional arts hub, while nearby families can also plan ahead for the Greater Carbondale YMCA's Sept. 27 Fall Festival.
