Gateway Rehab Showcases New Facility for Adolescents

The substance abuse rehabilitation center premieres its new state-of-the-art inpatient facility for adolescents.

Gateway Rehabilitation Center, which offers substance-abuse treatment in Western Pennsylvania and Ohio, opened the doors of its new adolescent inpatient facility Friday in Center Township, Beaver County.

The facility is located on Gateway's main campus beside the original building, which currently houses adolescents and adults. Gateway headquarters is based in Moon Township.

"Gateway has been making plans for this building and raising money to build it since 2002, so we're really proud of it and excited to continue the great adolescent programming here," said Brad Winfield, outreach coordinator.

The building houses up to 42 adolescents age 13 to 21. When patients reach age 18, they and social workers decide where their treatment should continue—with adolescents or adults.

Bright colors and floor-to-ceiling windows displaying the wooded campus scenery create the feel of a luxury spa or wellness-retreat center.

"It's really happy and cheerful in here. It's a positive environment," said Kenneth Ramsey, Gateway Rehabilitation's CEO.

Adolescents also have access to a courtyard, fitness center and relaxation rooms, where they can unwind. There are two floors of living space, which house adolescents enrolled in the adjuicated and non-adjudicated programs.

Gateway will continue to serve adolescents with the same programming in the new facility, but with much more sufficient space. Patients will move into the building on Sept. 5.
