Heroin Possession, Vandalism, Theft Mark Springfield Police Blotter

Police stayed busy between Sept. 4 and Sept. 10. See full details of their activity here.

SPRINGFIELD, PA – Springfield Township Police released their most recent crime report, which includes police activity from Sept. 4 to Sept. 10.

Incidents included a heroin possession bust, underage drinking, retail thefts, vandalism, and more.

Sept. 4, 1:10 a.m.
Ofc. O’Berg while on patrol found a 19-year-old female in the rear of the La Z Boy. She was found to have consumed an alcoholic beverage and was taken into custody and cited for underage drinking. She was later released to family.

Sept. 4, 8:45 p.m.
Morgan Smith 22, of Woodlyn, was arrested and charged with retail theft after Target security at the mall observed her stealing over $100 worth of baby formula. She was later released.

Sept. 5, 4:55 p.m.
James Nance 31, of Wilmington, Delaware, was observed by Target security at the mall selecting and cutting the security wrap off of two Fit Bit Blaze devices. He concealed the devices on his body and was stopped by police inside the store. He was taken into custody, charged and held for arraignment at Springfield Court.

Sept. 5, 4:30 p.m.
Macy’s security reported the theft of over $700 worth of clothing. A female was observed selecting a large amount of clothing, and she concealed this clothing while inside a fitting room. The female then fled out of the store and left the mall property inside a vehicle. Det. McNeely is investigating.

Sept. 7, 8:32 a.m.
The owner of truck parked in the SEPTA lot reported that his driver side window and windshield was smashed by rocks and his tires were punctured.

Sept. 7, 5:55 p.m.
Torrance Smith, 27, of Philadelphia, was arrested after being observed at Victoria’s Secret in the mall taking over $450 worth of clothing and concealing it in a bag. He fled the store and was stopped by mall security. He was charged with retail theft and held for arraignment at Springfield Court.

Sept. 8, 1:27 a.m.
Sgt. McKinney observed two subjects loitering in the area of Victoria Baptist Church on the 1400 block Baltimore Pike. An investigation revealed that both possessed a quantity of heroin and drug paraphernalia. Eric Canale 22, of Lancaster County, and Michael Martin 22, of Cinnaminson, New Jersey, were both taken into custody. Canale was found to have an outstanding warrant out of Lancaster. Both were charged with drug offenses and held for arraignment at Springfield Court.

Sept. 8, 8:42 a.m.
Jacqueline Langan 25, of Wallingford, was stopped and cited for public drunkenness after being observed causing a disturbance on the 10th fairway at Springfield Country Club. She was found to be intoxicated and was taken into custody and later released to family.

Sept. 9, 11:36 a.m.
While investigating a traffic crash on Baltimore Pike at Saxer Avenue, Ofc. Oswald found the operator of one of the vehicles to be intoxicated. A small amount of marijuana was also found inside the vehicle. The subject, a 34-year-old male from Clifton Heights, was taken into custody and submitted to a blood test. He was later released and charges for DUI are pending.

Sept. 10, 4:01 a.m.
A 19-year-0ld Swarthmore College student will be cited for underage drinking and disorderly conduct. He had been transported to the Springfield Hospital for an alcohol overdose and caused a disturbance while nurses were attempting to treat him. Officers were able to calm him, and he continued his treatment at the hospital.

Sept. 10, 4:55 a.m.
Officers responded to the Swiss Farms Chester Road for a burglar alarm and found the business sliding door smashed. An amount of cash and cigarettes were stolen from inside. Det. Nutley is investigating.

Sept. 10, 9:28 a.m.
Ian Shultz, 25, of Chester, was arrested and charged with retail theft after being observed at Target in the mall stealing close to $400 worth of Xbox equipment over the course of two days from Sept. 9 to Sept. 10. He was taken into custody and held for arraignment at Springfield Court.
