Officer Expected To Make Full Recovery After Being Shot 7 Times; Suspect Identified

Officer Chris Dorman underwent several surgeries and is expected to make a full recovery. Shooting suspect charged; held on $1 million bail.

A police officer shot seven times Friday morning in Folcroft, Delaware County is expected to make a full recovery, authorities said.

The suspect taken into custody in connection with the shooting of Christopher Dorman, 25, who was ambushed just before 10 a.m. while responding to a drug-related call.

Donte Brooks Island, known as Abdul Wahi, 33, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault and other related offenses. His bail was set at $1 million, court records show.

The incident happened at an apartment building on Elmwood Avenue. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the part-time officer was responding to a call about a reported drug deal when he was ambushed upon arrival. He was shot seven times, in the face, leg and chest. He was wearing a protective vest at the time, authorities said.

Dorman was transported to the hospital, where he underwent numerous surgeries and is listed in stable condition, the Inquirer reported.

Island was captured after an hours-long manhunt that caused SEPTA and Amtrak train service to be suspended. He was located hiding in a nearby apartment, 6ABC reported.

Luckily, the officer will pull through and recover from his injuries, authorities said.

"Officer Dorman's spirits are high and will be making a full recovery!!," Folcroft Police announced on Facebook.

Meanwhile support poured in from across the state and the nation. Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf personally called the department to express his sorrow for the injured officer.
