Overdose, DUI, Burglary Attempt, More: Springfield Police Report

Police found a man overdosing in a vehicle Saturday on Springfield Road. He was revived but police found heroin in the car. Details here.

SPRINGFIELD, PA – Springfield Township Police released their weekly crime report on Monday, March 26.

This week's report covers incidents that occurred in the township between March 19 and March 24.

Notable incidents include an overdose and drug seizure, an attempted burglary at a fast food restaurant, and DUIs.

March 19, noon
While on patrol, Officer Clifton stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on the 300 block of Powell Road. Three occupants were inside the vehicle, and a strong odor of burnt marijuana was present as well as a smoke condition. Investigation revealed a quantity of marijuana inside the vehicle along with drug paraphernalia. All three subjects were taken into custody. One adult from Clifton Heights was charged with drug offenses and held for arraignment. Two juveniles, one from Clifton Heights and one from Springfield, were released to family and charges will be filed.

March 19, 5:10 p.m.
While on patrol, Ofc. Christy observed a vehicle driving recklessly on the 500 block Baltimore Pike as well as an equipment violation. Investigation of the driver revealed him to be intoxicated, and his vehicle was not equipped with ignition interlock as it was required to be. The driver, a 55-year-old male from Drexel Hill, was taken into custody. He refused a blood test. He was released to family and charges for DUI and traffic offenses are pending.

March 20, 2:36 a.m.
Officers responded to the Chick-Fil-A restaurant for a burglar alarm. Upon arrival they found the drive thru window to have been forced open. Entry to restaurant was not gained. Det. Devaney is investigating.

March 22, 5:07 a.m.
An adult male from Morton will be charged with Disorderly Conduct after creating a disturbance inside the Springfield Hospital. The subject had been treated by emergency room personnel and then became belligerent towards them and refused to leave the hospital. Officers removed the male from the hospital and released him to family.

March 22, 9:08 p.m.
Sgt. McKinney investigated a traffic crash on State Road. at Collins Drive in which a vehicle struck another in the rear and found the operator of the striking vehicle was intoxicated. The male, 52 years old from Wayne, was taken into custody. He submitted to a blood test and was released to family. Charges for DUI are pending.

March 24, 11:46 a.m.
While on patrol, Ofc. Clifton found an occupied vehicle parked in the parking lot of the Rolling Green Apartments. The vehicle’s windows were covered with blankets to prevent seeing inside. Investigation found two subjects inside the vehicle in the rear seat. Further investigation revealed a quantity of narcotics and paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Both subjects, Dion Giorno 24, of Turnersville, New Jersey and Jessica Ortiz 26, of Philadelphia, were taken into custody. They were charged with drug offenses and held for arraignment at Springfield Court.

March 24, 9:53 p.m.
Officers were called to Springfield Road at State Road to investigate the driver of a vehicle who had passed out. Ofc. Kingsbury found the driver, a 23-year-old resident of Media, suffering from a drug overdose. A quantity of suspected Heroin was found inside the vehicle, and the male was treated by medical personnel on scene and transported to a hospital. Charges for DUI and drug offenses will be filed by Det. Devaney.
