Springfield Bank Robber Busted Wednesday Afternoon

A GPS tracker helped police chase down the man suspected of holding up a credit union on Baltimore Pike Wednesday afternoon in Springfield.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA – A robber who hit a credit union on Baltimore Pike in Springfield Township was busted by police thanks to the help of a GPS tracking device, according to authorities.

Jahleal Latif Farmer, 26, of Philadelphia, was arrested and charged with felony robbery, possession of an instrument of crime, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property, court records show

Springfield Police said the TruMark Financial Credit Union at 1141 Baltimore Pike was robbed at about 4:01 p.m. Wednesday, April 11.

A man, later identified as Farmer, came into the credit union and handed a teller a demand note, police said.

The teller gave the suspect cash, which was outfitted with a GPS tracker, according to police.

After fleeing on foot, police got a description of the suspect and direction in which he fled.

With that information and the data from the tracking device, police from Springfield and nearby municipalities located the suspected on the 500 block of Walnut Lane and arrested him.

The money was recovered at the scene of the arrest police said.

Farmer remains in custody as he awaits a preliminarily arraignment scheduled for Thursday, April 12, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing has been slated for April 19.
