Springfield Crime Blotter: Counterfeiting, Vandalism, Theft, More

Police said a 34-year-old Philadelphia man was charged after he tried to use a counterfeit $100 bill at Swiss Farms. See details here.

SPRINGFIELD, PA — Police in Springfield Township issued their weekly crime blotter Monday.

Incidents in the blotter occurred between Feb. 28 and March 6.

Feb. 28 at 2:39 p.m.
Target security at the mall reported a male subject had left the store failing to pay for over $740 worth of over the counter medication. Officers responded and found the subject had fled the area through the woods in the rear of the mall. After a short foot chase, the male was taken into custody near the properties of Golf View Estates. Tyrone Trader was charged with Retail Theft and drug offenses and held for arraignment. Investigation revealed he had been involved in at least three other thefts from Target.

Feb. 28 at 3:53 p.m.
Lloyd Miner, 42, of Philadelphia, was arrested and charged with Retail Theft after Macy’s security at the mall reported he stole $350 worth of undershirts and electric razors. Officers located the male trying to board a bus before he was taken into custody. Miner was held for arraignment.

Feb. 28 at 4:03 p.m.
Employees at the Courtyard Marriott, 400 block of West Sproul Road, reported several rocks had been thrown at windows on the property, causing damage. Officers learned that one of the rocks had struck a guest inside a room as the rock came through the glass window. The guest received treatment for a minor wound. Det. McNeely is investigating.

Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m.
A 27-year-old male from Drexel Hill was taken into custody near Baltimore Pike and Woodland Avenue after he was observed stumbling across the highway. He was found to be intoxicated and brought to the station. He was later released to family, and charges for Public Drunkenness will be filed.

March 1 at 12:40 p.m.
A resident of the 200 block of Hillview Drive reported two vehicles in the driveway were damaged by someone who used a key to scrape the paint. Det. McCarthy is investigating.

March 1 at 12:45 p.m.
Robert Wood, 70, of Chester, was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct and Public Drunkenness after he was reportedly shouting on a SEPTA bus at the mall and refused to exit the bus. Officers found him to be highly intoxicated and took him into custody. Wood stayed in custody until released later in the day.

March 1 at 1:11 p.m.
Best Buy, 600 block of Baltimore Pike, reported a male subject had fled the store with several Apple iPads. The subject ran through the rear properties on Baltimore Pike towards Saxer Avenue and was not located. Det. McCarthy is investigating.

March 2 at 10:34 a.m.
Two businesses along the 100 block of Saxer Avenue reported graffiti spray-painted on their rear walls of their buildings. Det. McCarthy is investigating.

March 2 at 12:39 p.m.
Officers were called to the Swiss Farms Store for a report of a subject trying to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at the drive-thru. Responding officers observed the suspect in a lane at the business. The suspect attempted to leave and was stopped by police. It was learned that the male tried to use the counterfeit bill to make a $19 purchase. The male was found to be in possession of ten more counterfeit $100 bills. Angelo Turner, 34, of Philadelphia, was taken into custody. It was also found that he had recently made a purchase at another local business using a counterfeit bill. He was charged with using counterfeit bills and held for arraignment.

March 6 at 2:31 a.m.
A 25-year-old male from Upper Darby will be charged with Public Drunkenness after he was reportedly in the area of Alliston and Bennett roads yelling on a phone. He was found to be intoxicated and was taken into custody. The male was later released to family.

March 6 at 5:28 p.m.
A 37-year-old male from Philadelphia will be charged with Disorderly Conduct after he was involved in an altercation while attending an event at the Springfield Country Club, 400 block of West Sproul Road. The subject left the event with family, and charges will be filed.
