Springfield Police Blotter: 10 Theft Incidents Reported In 5 Days

There were a total of 10 theft incidents between Nov. 13 and Nov. 17, including retail thefts, thefts from vehicles, and more. Details here.

SPRINGFIELD, PA – Springfield Township Police issued their weekly crime report highlighting police activity in the township between Nov. 13 and Nov. 17.

Incidents included vehicle vandalism, a stolen saws, and numerous theft incidents.

Nov. 13, 6 p.m.
Giant Food Store, 721 W. Sproul Road, reported a retail theft – A male and female entered the store and filled a shopping cart with groceries. The couple then exited the store with the cart without rendering payment
for the merchandise. The store manager followed the couple and they fled in a vehicle leaving the loaded cart behind. $514 in merchandise was recovered. Descriptions of the suspects and vehicle were provided.

Nov. 13, 6:39 p.m.Macy's, 1250 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft – Store security observed a male juvenile from Lansdowne conceal men's clothing and attempt to leave the store without rendering payment. The total value of the theft was $134. The juvenile was placed under arrest and cited for Retail Theft. He was later released to his mother. Det. Daniel McNeely is handling the investigation.

Nov. 14, 9 a.m.
A resident from the 300 block of Hawarden Road reported vandalism to his wife's vehicle – Sometime overnight, unknown person(s) smashed the rear window of the vehicle while it was parked on the street. Nothing was stolen from inside. Det. James Devaney is handling the investigation.

Nov. 14, 12:42 p.m. Target, 1200 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft – William Waller, 58, of Upper Darby, was observed placing 9 cans of Similac baby formula in his backpack. He attempted to leave the store with the merchandise without rendering payment. The total value of the theft was$146. Waller was placed under arrest and cited for Retail Theft. Det.Bridget McCarthy is handling the investigation.

Nov. 14, 3:33 p.m. Target, 1200 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft – Matthew Langdale, 37, of Drexel Hill, was observed placing 8 boxes of Topps baseball cards under his shopping cart. He proceeded to the checkout lane and paid for other items, but concealed the baseball cards. He was apprehended by security as he was leaving the store. The total value of the theft was $175. Langdale was placed under arrest and charged with Retail Theft. Det. Daniel McNeely is handling the investigation.

Nov. 14, 3:23 p.m.
Report of a theft from vehicle parked at the Courtyard Marriott, 400 W. Sproul Road – The manager discovered a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban with its passenger side window smashed. The owner was contacted and stated a Bose stereo system and a set of books was stolen. Det. Robert Nutley is handling the investigation.

Nov. 15, 5:45 p.m.
Report of a theft from vehicle parked at the intersection of N. Norwinden Drice and Larchwood Road – A chain saw and a pole saw were stolen from 2 landscaping vehicles while workers were at a residence in the area. Det. Robert Nutley is handling the investigation.

Nov. 16, 12:50 p.m.
American Eagle, 1250 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft – An employee noticed a tray of women's underwear missing from a display table. The manager reviewed security footage and observed a woman place the missing merchandise inside 2 shopping bags and leave the store without renderingpayment. The total value of the theft was $800. The suspect was described as a B/F, 35-40 yrs old, shaved head, wearing over-sized earrings, black clothing and white sneakers. Det. Robert Nutley is handling the investigation.

Nov. 17, 11:22 a.m.
Giant Food Store, 721 W. Sproul Road, reported a retail theft – A suspicious male was observed using the self scanner while shopping throughout the store. He proceeded to the self checkout lane and then headed for the exit. The store manager stopped the customer to spot check his groceries and found that $163 in merchandise was not paid for. Thomas Hibbert, 24 yrs old from Wallingford, was taken into custody and charged with Retail Theft. Sgt John DiTrolio is handling the investigation.

Nov. 17, 1:46 p.m.
Macy's, 1250 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft – Store security observed a male juvenile from Folcroft select a Nike sweat outfit from the rack and attempt to leave the store without rendering payment. The total value of the theft was $120. The juvenile was placed under arrest and cited for Retail Theft. It was determined that the juvenile was on home monitoring from a previous offense. He was turned over to State Constables for violating the conditions of his release. Det. Bridget McCarthy is handling the investigation.

Nov. 17, 7:22 p.m.
Report of a theft from the Springfield Mall, 1250 Baltimore Pike – A shopper had mistakenly left a bag with Charlotte Russe merchandise in the food court area of the mall. After realizing she forgot the bag, she returned and found the merchandise missing. Security footage showed a teenage white male taking the bag and leaving the mall. Total value of the theft was $70. Det. Daniel McNeely is handling the investigation.
