Springfield Police Report: Retail Thefts, DUI, Thefts From Cars

Police handled four separate retail theft incidents in the township between Jan. 8 and Jan. 13, according to police. See full details here.

SPRINGFIELD, PA – Springfield Township Police issued their latest report on police activity in the township, highlighting incidents between Jan. 8 and Jan. 14.

Incidents included retail thefts, DUI, theft from vehicles, and more.

Jan. 8, 4 p.m.
Target, 1200 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. A male juvenile from Darby was observed concealing merchandise in his school bag and attempting to leave the store without rendering payment. Total value of the theft was $37. The juvenile was cited for retail theft and released to his mother. Det. Robert Nutley is handling the case.

Jan. 8, 4:26 p.m.
Target, 1200 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. A male juvenile from Upper Darby was observed removing cell phone cases from the packaging and concealing the merchandise under his jacket. He then attempted to leave the store without rendering payment. Total value of the theft was $119. The juvenile was cited for retail theft and released to his father. Det. Daniel McNeely is handling the case.

Jan. 9, 2:13 p.m.
Target, 1200 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. Henry Lee Johnson, 55, of Philadelphia, was observed placing an LG television in an empty Macy's shopping bag and attempting to leave the store without rendering payment. Total value of the theft was $129. Johnson was placed under arrest and charged with retail theft. Det. Bridget McCarthy is handling the case.

Jan. 11, 6:39 p.m.
Report of a theft from vehicle at the Springfield Shopping Center. The victim discovered her car had been forcibly entered while parked in the lot. The rear window had been broken and a Louis Vuitton handbag was stolen. The bag contained credit/debit cards, a driver's license and other items. Det. Robert Nutley is handling the investigation.

Jan. 13, 7:48 p.m.
The Children's Place, 1250 Baltimore Pike, reported a retail theft. The store manager observed two female customers enter the business with several small children. The women concealed clothing in the children's backpacks and the group left the store activating the security sensors. One of the suspects was detained in the parking lot, but none of the merchandise was found. This suspect was identified and released. The store manager will provide security footage. Det. Daniel McNeely is handling the investigation.

Jan. 14, 1:13 a.m.
While on patrol, Sgt. Raymond Purcell observed a vehicle on the 500 block of Baltimore Pike driving on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic. The vehicle was stopped and he contacted the driver, Allison Smith, 29, of Secane. Sgt. Purcell detected an odor of alcoholic beverages from inside the vehicle and Smith showed signs of intoxication. Smith was unable to perform the requested field sobriety testing and was subsequently arrested for DUI. She was released to a friend after police processing. Det. Daniel McNeely is handling the investigation.
