SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA – Springfield Township Police released their latest crime report this week, detailing incidents in the township that occurred between March 13 and March 18.

Notable incidents include a police chase, iPhones stolen from two separate stores on the same day, cocaine possession, and DUI.

March 13, 1:05 p.m.
Officers assisted Morton Borough Police with a hit and run traffic crash which occurred in their borough.Investigation led officers to the Parkway Inn where they located the vehicle involved. The vehicle was found to have been reported stolen on March 12 in Deerfield, New Jersey. After a period of time, officers observed Tyler McLaughlin, 22 of Sicklerville, New Jersey, exit the motel office and enter the vehicle. He parked the vehicle in front of a room and was taken into custody. During the search of McLaughlin, officers found a quantity of suspected Heroin. McLaughlin was charged with receiving stolen property and drug offenses and arraigned at Prospect Park District Court.

March 13, 2:07 p.m.
Officers responded to the Citadel Federal Credit Union on West Sproul Road to investigate a male who was attempting to open bank account using a fraudulent driver’s license. Investigation revealed that the male, David Johnson 35, of Coatesville, used a fake driver’s license to obtain a loan from Citadel to purchase a vehicle in West Chester the week before. He then arrived to open a checking account, and the license was found to be fraudulent. Johnson was taken into custody and charged with fraud, theft, and related offenses. He was arraigned at Springfield Court.

March 13, 7:01 p.m.
Employees at BJ’s Wholesale Club on Woodland Avenue reported they stopped a male subject at the exit doors who was in possession of a Magnavox television which he said he had entered with. As employees attempted to confirm that the subject had entered the store with the television, he walked out taking the TV. The television was found to have been stolen. Det. McCarthy is investigating.

March 14, 2:28 p.m.
While on patrol, Officer Kingsbury received notice of a vehicle which was occupied by a subject who had three arrest warrants placed against him from Delaware County agencies. Kingsbury was able to stop the vehicle on Norwinden Drive. While stopped, a female passenger exited the vehicle and the vehicle then sped away from the stop. The vehicle was pursued just into Ridley Township before the pursuit was stopped. Officers from Norwood Police Department then observed the vehicle, and the vehicle eventually stopped in the area of Darby Borough. After a short foot chases, officers took Charles Macauley into custody. He was charged with fleeing and eluding, numerous traffic offenses and secured for outstanding warrants. He was taken to Springfield Court for arraignment and then Delaware County Prison.

March 15, 6:58 p.m.
Two males entered the Sprint PCS Store on the 1100 block Baltimore Pike and stole two Apple iPhones from a display. A short time later, two males entered the AT&T Store on the 700 block West Sproul Road and stole two Apple iPhones from a display. Det. Devaney is investigating the thefts.

March 16, 2:36 a.m.
Sgt. Welsh observed a male subject sitting inside a vehicle in the lot of the Parkway Inn on the 600 block Baltimore Pike. When he approached the subject, he observed what appeared to be cocaine inside a bag on the front console. The subject was found to have been snorting the substance inside the vehicle. The subject, an adult male from New Castle, Delaware, was taken into custody and released to family. Charges are pending.

March 17, 7 p.m.
A juvenile female from Morton was cited for underage drinking and two males for park violations after officers found them inside the Church Road park after hours.

March 18, 11:19 p.m.
While conducting patrol for the Delaware County DUI Task Force, Officer Christy observed a Ford F-150 truck driving recklessly on the unit block Baltimore Pike.The vehicle made a wide turn and struck a curb when being stopped. The driver, an adult male from Newtown Square, exhibited signs of intoxication and was taken into custody. He submitted to a blood test and was released to family. Charges for DUI are pending.
