TE School District Announces New Superintendent

By James Boyle The Tredyffrin/Easttown School Board approved Dr. Richard Gusick's three-year contract last week.

The Tredyffrin/Easttown School Board approved the appointment of Dr. Richard Gusick as the district’s new superintendent for a three-year term effective July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2018 during its regular meeting last week. He will receive a starting salary of $205,500 for his first year and subsequent raises each year of the lesser between the Act 1 index or 5 percent.

Gusick joined the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District in 1990 as a social studies teacher at Conestoga High School. He taught social studies for more than ten years before becoming assistant principal of Conestoga High School in 2003.

As a teacher, Gusick was the recipient of numerous teaching awards including the College Board Award for Outstanding Teacher of Advanced Placement.

In 2007, Gusick was transferred to the central administration office as Administrator on Assignment for Strategic Planning. In this role, he led the District Action Team process which involved the participation of hundreds of students, teachers, parents, community members and administrators.

Gusick completed his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his Master of Arts degree at Pennsylvania State University at Great Valley and his Doctor of Education degree at the University of Delaware.

The school board evaluated twenty-four applicants for the Superintendent position. Four semifinalists were interviewed in person and two finalists completed a rigorous screening and interview process. The Chester County Intermediate Unit did considerable checking of backgrounds and references, and the board reviewed feedback from a community-wide survey and stakeholder focus groups.
