ACLU: Password Request = 'Invasion of Privacy'

The American Civil Liberties Union says employers have no right to ask you for your social media account passwords when you are in the running for a new job, according to a report from CNN.
According to several recent media reports, employers are asking job applicants' for passwords to access to their private social media accounts.
The ACLU called the new trend by some employers an "invasion of privacy," the CNN story states.

"We certainly wouldn't be willing if an employer asked us to let them go through our diaries or our text messages on our cell phones because we want a job. But there's a coercive nature here, and you want the job so badly if your employer asks you may be afraid to say no," Senator Schumer, of New York, said at a recent press conference carried online.
Recently, Facebook told employers to not to request job applicants for their profile passwords. The California-based company said it could bring legal action against those who violate it's policy against password sharing, The Detriot News reported.

Lawmakers in Maryland and Illinois are considering legislation that would ban the practice.
