Replacement Water Meter Installations Underway

Phase one of the township's meter replacement process began this week, in the southeast corner of the township.

Starting this week, you may be required to let an employee into your home for one last look at your water meter.

The Upper Southampton Municipal Authority has contracted National Metering Services, Inc. to install new, state-of-the-art meters equipped with "Automatic Meter Reading technology" in the homes and businesses across the township.

These new meters will allow, among other things, for the transmission of a reading to a Water and Sewer Authority Vehicle as it passes by your home. This will negate the need for an authority employee to gain access to your property to obtain a meter reading in the future.

Phase one of the meter replacement process kicked off on Lakeside Drive Thursday, with the approximately 75 businesses in the Lakeside Office Park.

Herb Schoell, manager of the Upper Southampton Municipal Authority, said currently the plan is to work their way up through the township while staying below Street Road, and then to cycle back through the township hitting all of the customers above Street Road.

"This is the goal," said Schoell. "We need to coordinate with the contractor, so it could be subject to change, but we are pretty confident that is the way it will go."

According to Schoell, phase one of the project will have 485 homes and business receiving their new meters. (See the pdf document in the photo section for the breakdown of the neighborhoods included in this phase.)

National Metering Services also maintains a website where you schedule your appointment, talk to a representative from the company or check on the progress of the project across the township.
