New York Mets Manager Terry Collins responded to the booing of David Wright with the following statement, “When you start booing David Wright, you better re-evaluate what’s going on. There’s nobody that plays the game any harder or who epitomizes what you want a major league player to be than David Wright, for heaven’s sakes.” Collins is right.
David Wright made an error in judgment in not originally including home run king Pedro Alvarez in the (meaningless) Home Run Derby attached to the All-Star game, but he ultimately rectified it. Additionally, Wright is a player untainted by scandal, a gentleman that comes from a fine family, and whose philanthropy is exemplary and extraordinary. He is an uncommonly decent human being.
