In honor of National Volunteer Appreciation Month, Ann’s Choice, an Erickson Living retirement community in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, held two breakfast celebrations on April 12 and April 13 to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the more than 750 residents who volunteer on and off campus. More than 450 residents attended the celebrations.

Philanthropy Manager Robin Kaufold welcomed the guests to the breakfast and thanked them for their service to the community. In addition, Executive Director Chris Donati, Associate Executive Director Vince Scala, and Continuing Care Program Manager Cynthia Franklin gave words of appreciation to the campus volunteers.

Erik Clare, executive director of the Bucks County Housing Group, gave the keynote address during the event and thanked the residents for their volunteerism as well as hosting an annual food drive in partnership with the Bucks County Housing Group.

During the celebration, Philanthropy Coordinator Rebecca Nixon presented President’s Volunteer Service Awards to 77 residents for service completed in 2017. Bob Klimek received a lifetime achievement award for serving more than 4,000 hours. Thirty-nine residents received Gold awards for 500 or more hours of service, and 37 residents received silver awards for 250-499 hours of service.

The President’s Volunteer Service Awards were created by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation in 2003 “to recognize the importance of volunteers to America's strength and national identity," according to their website.

In 2017, Ann’s Choice resident volunteers contribute over 81,000 hours of service on campus and at not-for-profits in the local community including local churches and synagogues, elementary schools, hospitals, Meals on Wheels, Senior Centers, Civil Air Patrol, food pantries, museums, and more.

“This event is a wonderful opportunity to show our appreciation for our residents who make such a difference in the lives of so many people through their volunteer work,” said Philanthropy Manager Robin Kaufold.
