WARMINSTER, PA —The township's two fire departments helped free a driver following a crash on York Road Wednesday.

The Warminster Fire Department and Hartsville Fire Company responded to an auto extrication at the intersection of Old York Road and York Road Wednesday, freeing the driver who was stuck in the vehicle.

This was the second auto extrication in a little more than a week that the fire companies handled, having assisted the Warwick Fire Company with an early evening auto extrication the day after Christmas.

During the early minutes of the incident, while emergency personnel were just arriving, and before police could shut down the road, the Warminster Fire Department witnessed numerous drivers driving quite quickly through the scene.

Fire officials are warning motorists that Pennsylvania's Move Over Law requires drivers approaching an emergency response area who are unable to safely merge into a lane farther away from the response area to "pass the emergency response area at a speed of no more than 20 miles per hour less than the posted speed limit and reasonable for safely passing."

An emergency response area is where an emergency vehicle has its lights flashing, or where road crews or emergency responders have lighted flares, posted signs, or try to warn travelers.

Fire officials are asking to help protect the police, fire, EMS, and tow personnel working these scenes.
