Hyundai, Kia Crimes Prompt Warminster Wheel Lock Giveaway

Warminster Township Police said Kia and Hyundai owners can help protect their vehicles in the wake of recent crimes.

WARMINSTER, PA —Like neighboring Northampton Township, the Warminster Township Police Department is now distributing free steering wheel locks in response to recent Kia and Hyundai vehicle crimes.

Police said the security locks are being offered to township residents who may own Kia or Hyundai vehicles without push-button ignitions and immobilizing anti-theft devices.

The thefts stem from a viral challenge on TikTok and YouTube has led to an increase in thefts of Kias and Hyundais around the country.

Northampton Township began offering the locks last month. Northampton Township Police have witnessed similar vehicle crimes as neighboring Warminster Township.

Both auto manufacturers are providing the steering wheel locking kits to select law enforcement agencies across the country for distribution to residents who own or lease the impacted models, police said.

Police said, in partnering with Hyundai and Kia, the locks will be given out to residents who own a Hyundai or Kia vehicle with the model year of 2016-2021.

The promotion is offered while supplies last.

Any resident who is a registered owner of a 2016-2021 Hyundai or Kia can obtain a free wheel locking kit by coming to the police station, which is located at 401 Gibson Ave.
