Mosquito Spray Planned Friday In Warminster

The Warminster Heights section, including Potter, Luther, Yeats, and Prince streets, will be sprayed Friday to eliminate West Nile virus.

A mosquito spray will be conducted Friday, July 27 in Warminster.

The spray will be conducted by the Bucks County West Nile Virus Prevention Program. The ultra-low volume (ULV) mosquito control operation is aimed to reduce high populations of mosquitoes capable of transmitting West Nile Virus, the county said in an announcement.

The treatments will be administered via truck-mounted equipment, spraying mosquito habitats in residential and park locations. Areas in Warminster to be sprayed include the Warminster Heights section, which is bounded by Potter Street, Luther Street, Yeats Street and Prince Street.

Trucks used in the spray are identified with Bucks County seal logos located on the doors.

"The equipment dispenses Duet Dual-Action Adulticide at a rate of 0.75 ounces per acre or DeltaGard at a rate 0.66 ounces per acre. These products are designed to provide quick, effective control of adult mosquito populations. The application material has a very low toxicity profile to mammals and will have negligible impact to non-target insects and the environment," the county said.

The spray is announced just as 21 mosquitoes in Bucks County tested positive for West Nile.

Weather conditions and other unexpected events could delay or cancel the spray. In that case, it will be held Monday evening, July 30.
