'No Kings' Protests Planned In Philly Region Saturday

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Communities throughout Bucks and Montgomery counties and the Philadelphia region will participate on Saturday in a national "No Kings Day Of Nonviolent Action."

The towns will join 3,000 communities across the nation for the nationwide mobilization, billed as the largest single-day protest in U.S. history. It is being organized across the nation to protest President Trump as "a tyrant and authoritarian."

According to the website, NoKings.org, the national protest is being organized by the ACLU, the American Federation of Teachers, Common Defense, 55010, Human Rights Campaign, Indivisible, League of Conservation Voters, MoveOn, National Education Association, National Nurses United, Public Citizen, SEIU, United We Dream, among others.

"Just months ago, millions of people took to the streets across thousands of events to say no to Trump's abuses of power, and today that movement is only growing. With every ICE raid, every escalation abroad, and every abuse of power at home, Americans are rising up in opposition to Trump's attempt to rule through force and fear," said Ezra Levin, co-executive director of Indivisible. "That is why people across the country are organizing, showing up for their neighbors, and making one thing unmistakably clear: we are done with the corruption, the cruelty, and the authoritarianism. This No Kings will be the largest protest in American history."

Here is a list of the communities involved in the protests in the Philadelphia region:

• No Kings protests are planned in Morrisville Borough (Williamson Park from 1 to 3 p.m.), Newtown-Langhorne at Summit Square (12 to 2 p.m.), and Bensalem at 3700 Hulmeville Road (3 to 5 p.m.).
• In Montgomery County, protests are also planned in Hatboro, Ambler, Abington, Audubon, Phoenixville, Norristown Pottstown, Lansdale, Harleysville, West Chester, and Pennsburg, among other communities.

• In Doylestown Borough, a No Kings protest is planned from 3 to 5 p.m. in the courtyard of the Bucks County Administration building at Court and Main.

• A New Hope-Lambertville No Kings protest is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The rally begins at 10 a.m. at South Union and Bridge streets and then marches across the river to New Hope. Streets will be closed for the march. The theme will be "Courage Over Kings."

• A No Kings Upper Bucks County protest will take place from 12 to 2 p.m. at Triangle Park on West Broad Street in Quakertown Borough. The protest will call for justice and accountability in the case of the Quakertown 5 and oppose what organizers describe as growing authoritarianism in the United States. Organized by Upper Bucks Unite, Indivisible, the event will highlight concerns about government accountability at both the national and local levels, from foreign policy decisions to local policing practices, and their impact on civil liberties and vulnerable communities.
