Road Repaving Project Rolling Along In Warminster

Warminster Township Supervisors have approved bids to begin paving next month on nearly seven miles of roads that have been neglected.

WARMINSTER, PA —Officials are moving forward to start fixing the township's "neglected" roads.

At its recent Township Supervisors' meeting, bids were awarded to repave roads and take care of ADA curb and ramp installations. Township officials have stated that their roads are "in pretty bad condition" due to years of neglect because the township did not have the funds to get the work done.

"It's important to get the bids out early," Supervisors Chairman Kenneth Hayes said.

Township officials said waiting until April could have had bids escalate due to the rising costs of asphalt, petroleum, and products.

The road paving bid went to James D. Morrissey at a cost of $1.65 million.

The township plans to have a base of 6.7 miles of roads paved this year with an alternate of 1.4 miles if officials decide to modify the 2023 road paving project, Township Manager Tom Scott said.

Finance Director John Ramey said the township could use money from the liquid fuels account if necessary.

Officials said they would post the roads that will be paved on the township's website.

The township is trying to catch up to work that hasn't been done in several years and even a few decades. Some roads haven't been paved since 1993.

Township Engineer Craig Kennard said the bids were opened on Feb. 21 along with Public Works Director Andrew McAdams.

Kennard said eight bids were received for the ramps and curbs. The bid went to Drumheller Construction at a cost of $319,140.

The ramps and curbs have been on the township's list of tasks since 2021 and 2022.

Kennard said there are 54 concrete curbs and that every one of them must meet Pennsylvania Department of Transportation standards.

Officials had hoped to begin the paving project in April.
