Sessions Set This Week On Warminster Water-Sewer Sale

Township supervisors have voted to allow staff to negotiate the possible sale of the systems.

WARMINSTER, PA — Warminster residents with thoughts on the township's possible sale of its water and sewer systems may attend a pair of public sessions set for this week.

The information sessions will be on Thursday, Sept. 12, in the township public meeting room, at 401 Gibson Ave. The first will be held at 2 p.m. and the second at 6 p.m.

Township Manager Gregg Schuster said the sessions are designed to briefly explain the financial issues involved, allow residents to ask questions about the impact of a sale and see the financial model used to project future cash flows.

Warminster supervisors have voted to allow staff members to begin negotiating the possible sale of the systems.

Schuster said that township staff analyzed Warminster's finances and have received multiple offers to take over the water and sewer systems. He said any deal the township approves would guarantee a clean water supply for residents and help keep local taxes manageable.

Warminster officials say the sale of the water and sewer systems could save the township $90 million and help it avoid looming bankruptcy by chipping away at a growing budget deficit. Residents may well end up paying more for their water services, but doing so would help avoid tax increases, officials say.
