Warminster Hosting Info Sessions On Water, Sewer Sale

Selling the systems could help the township avoid bankruptcy and higher taxes, but may mean higher water bills.

WARMINSTER, PA — Officials in Warminster will be hosting two public information sessions on the proposed sale of the township's water and sewer systems to a private company.

The first session will be Thursday, Sept. 12, at 2 p.m. The second session will be the same day at 6 p.m.

Both will be held at the township public meeting room, at 401 Gibson Ave. in Warminster.

According to township officials, the sessions are designed to explain the financial issues involved, allow residents to ask questions about the potential impact of the sale and see the financial model used to project future cash flows.

Last week, Warminster supervisors voted to allow staff members to begin negotiatingthe sale of the systems.

Township Manager Gregg Schuster said that township staff analyzed Warminster's finances and has received multiple offers to take over the water and sewer systems. He said any deal the township approves would guarantee a clean water supply for residents and help keep local taxes manageable.

Warminster officials say the sale of the water and sewer systems could save the township $90 million and help it avoid looming bankruptcy by chipping away at a growing budget deficit. Residents may well end up paying more for their water services, but doing so would help avoid tax increases, officials say.
