Warrington Township’s 2019 budget received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The award represents the highest principals in government budgeting. In order for municipalities to receive this award, the GFOA looks at how well a budget serves as:

  • A policy document
  • A financial plan
  • An operational guide
  • A communications device

Municipalities receive the award if their budget is rated as “proficient” in all four categories. Karen Palmer, Warrington Township’s Finance Director, was the architect of the township’s winning entry. Last year, under the supervision of former Finance Director Cassandra Williams, Palmer proactively researched and assembled the 2019 budget with an eye for the submission to the GFOA. What makes the award extra special is that it was the first time Warrington Township competed for this award. More than 1000 participating municipalities vie for the award and most do not receive recognition on their first try.

“Karen has worked very hard to achieve this award,” said Township Manager Barry P. Luber. “Her efforts have greatly improved the township’s budget documentation over the last two years and this award reflects that.”
