Brandywine Valley SPCA Heads To Houston To Set Up Animal Shelter After Hurricane Harvey

The Brandywine Valley SPCA has been asked to head up a 1,000 animal shelter in Houston for Hurricane Harvey relief.

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Brandywine Valley SPCA has been asked to head up a 1,000 animal shelter in the Houston area for Hurricane Harvey relief.

The 10-member crew left Chester County on Wednesday to head down to the NRG Arena in Houston, where they will work with Best Friends Animal Society to establish the shelter.

The SPCA added that an incident commander at Texas A&M also requested their assistance at the Brazoria County SPCA, south of Houston on the Gulf Coast.

Crews will assist in intake, medical situations, and other issues as needed at both locations, shelter officials said.

The SPCA took in 27 more dogs from Texas at their West Chester shelter on Wednesday morning. The BVSCPA is one of 58 shelters in the region that has been accepting dogs and cats from Harvey in recent days.

"We’re proud to be part of this important work," the shelter said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
