LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA —It won't be your typical Wegmans.
When the new supermarket opens on March 20 in Prickett Preserve on Stony Run Road, Bucks County's second Wegmans will have features not found at the Warrington Township location or the company's other supermarkets.

For one thing, the supermarket is 88,000 square feet, which is a little bigger than other Wegmans, company officials said in a media tour Thursday of the building that is currently under construction.
The store will stock as many as 25,000 different items, have 15 aisles of non-perishable foods, and include 15 self-checkout stations and 13 registers. Officials said the self-checkout stations are more than most stores. About 95 cashiers are expected to be employed.

The new store will have a similar layout for the most part and the usual sections that Wegmans customers at nearby stores in Warrington Township —which opened in October 2006 —and Princeton expect, such as a bakery, grab-and-go food, a florist area, and chef-prepared foods like sushi, pizza, salads, and sandwiches, Store Manager Bill Platt told Patch, which was the first media organization to see the new store.
In addition, the store will offer one-stop shopping with approximately 1,200 wines and 500 varieties of domestic, craft, and imported beers and hard ciders.
"We have over 200 Partner Select wines. We buy large quantities from specific wineries," said Platt, adding that a fine wine room controls temperatures and the humidity to "peak perfection."
Upon entering the store, customers will be welcomed to a 7,100-square-foot produce section offering numerous fruits and vegetables. Wegmans also boasts a wide selection of baked goods, seafood, cheeses, flowers, meats, cookies, and other products.
Platt said that Wegmans has focused on produce since it opened in 1916 as a fruit and vegetable cart. He said produce comes fresh each day from vendors in Lancaster and Mechanicsburg and Wegmans will also seek more local vendors as well.
Near the front of the store off from the checkout stations is the cart-to-curb area which Dave Hemmer, Wegmans service area manager, said took off during COVID.
"COVID really changed our business at an astronomical rate," he said. "It's maintained.
The frozen foods section is located on a far back wall. Platt said that customers have been asking for that location for years.
The bakery has been divided with desserts on one side and bread and breakfast items on another, Platt said. There's also a separate cookie pod to meet the "growing demand for cookies."
The sushi area features 25 different varieties and vegetable options as well with the kitchen broken up so chefs can do made-to-order sushi production, Platt said.
He said that Wegmans will also feature an Asian food bar, wings bar, and soup bar.
Hemmer said there will be 156 seats in its in-store cafe with some dedicated for outside seating during warmer weather.
What's also new is a self-checkout area near the cafe for a quick exit from the store instead of customers having to head to the checkout stands in the front of the supermarket, Hemmer said.
What Platt touted was a man-made cheese cave that help ripen the cheese. The cheese and deli areas are also nearby in this store.
And there will be a mechanical rooster that will crow around the hour. Officials said that has become as much of an attraction as the model train set which runs above the deli section.
“We’ve been working hard to hire and train new employees, and we’re looking for more enthusiastic candidates to round out our team before opening day,” Platt said. “Construction on the new store is nearly complete, and we’re thrilled to begin the countdown to March 20th when we can open our doors to our neighbors in the Yardley community."
Available jobs span departments throughout the store, including sushi, pizza, prepared foods, deli and charcuterie, cheese, seafood, bakery, and cashiers. Job seekers may apply online at jobs.wegmans.com/yardley or call 215-369-6565 for more information.
