Just Ducky: Watch Wood Duck Join Mallards In Rare Lake Afton Swim
Friends of Lake Afton offer a video of a sighting in Yardley where a wood duck is mingling with mallards.
YARDLEY, PA —Friends of Lake Afton often spot numerous wildlife engaged in the pond just off Yardley's Main Street.
During the fall, the organization took a picture of some turtles sitting on a rock on a fall day. And, of course, ducks are always swimming around.
But Tuesday, Friends of Lake Afton —charged with improving, maintaining, and preserving Lake Afton for 53 years —saw something new: A wood duck mingling with mallards.

"Today there's a male Wood Duck swimming in Lake Afton with a group of Mallard Ducks," FOLA said on Facebook. "I've never seen this before. Wood Ducks generally don't interact with other ducks. Maybe he's young, lost his family, or lost his mate? Very cute!"
Wood ducks are not listed as threatened or endangered. Their population declined in the late 19th century, but has increased in recent decades. Wood ducks still face threats in the wild, including wetland loss, habitat loss, and deforestation., according to the website of the National Wildlife Federation.
