Lower Makefield Farmers' Market Calling It Quits

After 16 years, the market will not start its season in June. Organizers said it was hard to find vendors to participate on Thursdays.

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA —The Lower Makefield Farmers' Market won't be showcasing its fruits and vegetables, vendors, entertainment, and other offerings this upcoming season.

After 16 years, the farmers' market 586 Stony Run Road announced in a Facebook post on Thursday that it would be ceasing operations.

"We regret to announce that the Lower Makefield Farmers' Market will not be held going forward. This wasn't an easy decision to make and we will be forever grateful for the support our community has given the market over its 16 years," came a post signed by Heather, Irene, and Kathy.

The farmers' market was open from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays from June to September. The market was open for its final time on Sept. 1.

"We've always had great vendors, but the number of vendors able to participate on a Thursday afternoon has gotten smaller in recent years," market organizers said. "As you know, there are many markets in our surrounding communities, most operating on the weekends. Check them out."

The farmers' market was hosted at Charlann Farm over the past few years.
