YARDLEY, PA —Phase II of the North Main Street Sidewalks Project is nearly in the books despite some stops and starts over the past six months.

At the Yardley Borough Council meeting earlier this month, Engineer Patrick Foley said that only a punch list of items remain to be completed on the project.

But Phase III's status is still unclear, especially when it comes to funding, borough officials said.

"We're waiting for the lottery but we don't know when the drawing is," Councilman Uri Feiner said.

In early December, the borough applied for a $100,000 PennDOT grant that comes with a borough match of $30,000.

But Foley told the council at its June 6 meeting that the grant is still outstanding and he wasn't sure when PennDOT would make a decision.

"There's no indication," he said when asked by Councilman Matt Curtin.

The borough has set aside $5,000 to assist in applying for grants, having used $1,200 of those funds, Foley said.

Borough officials had said they liked their chances of getting the funding.

"I believe completing two good segments there strengthens it," Foley said.

He said the borough did receive a grant in 2021, but none in 2022.

Phase II was slated to begin the first week of November, but then its start didn't happen until the following week.

It was then halted due to a dispute with a resident before the project proceeded again, officials said.

And then the delay for winter before the project resumed in April once the weather warmed up for paving work.
