Police Call Numbers 'Static' In Yardley Compared To Year Ago

YARDLEY, PA —The statistics say it all.

For the month of August compared with the same month a year earlier, the Yardley Police Department's calls for service are basically unchanged.

"Everything is pretty well static," Police Chief Joseph Kelly III told Patch during a phone interview Thursday.

Kelly was pretty pleased with the performance of his department handling the crowds at Saturday's Harvest Day as well.

"There were tremendous crowds and no incidents. It was a family day," the chief said. "You saw how heavy the crowds were. We had pretty good coverage throughout the event."

The department recently added a part-time officer in Robert Gergel Jr., who worked Harvest Day.

At the Borough Council's Sept. 6 meeting, Kelly reported that the department handled 566 service calls, issued three parking tickets, 72 traffic citations, three non-traffic citations, made nine arrests and dealt with seven traffic accidents. There were no DUI arrests.

The department also handled 336 premises and business checks.

For August 2021, the department handled 563 service calls, issued two parking tickets, 69 traffic citations, no non-traffic citations, made three arrests and dealt with seven traffic accidents. There were no DUI arrests. The department also handled 351 premises and business checks.

For July, the chief reported at the council's Aug. 16 meeting that the department handled 615 calls for service, issued one parking ticket, 15 moving traffic citations, investigated six motor vehicle accidents and made three arrests, two for DUI.
