The officer sustained head and neck injuries when his cruiser was struck by another vehicle while he was helping a disabled motorist, Police Chief George McClay told Patch Tuesday morning.
Police Cpl. William Smith was transported to Capital Health and was treated and released, Police McClay said. McClay said the officer hit his head on the ceiling of his cruiser.

The chief said that the cruiser was totaled.
"There was no reason why he ran into the car," McClay said. "The lights were activated. I think he was preoccupied. His cell phone went through the windshield."
The chief said that driver, from Trenton, N.J., suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Jefferson Bucks.
The chief said the man was charged with driving under the influence and having a suspended license.
McClay said that the area has been prone to accidents over the years.
"That's a dangerous piece of highway," the chief said.
The road was closed for the crash and reopened after 10 p.m., said Brad Rudolph, a communications director with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He said PennDOT Bucks County Maintenance assisted Pennsylvania State Police with closing the highway.
