Scudder Falls Ramp Closures Delayed Until Friday

The ramp closures and detours had originally be scheduled for Wednesday, but were delayed due to extreme heat over the weekend.

LOWER MAKEFIELD, PA — The closures of five ramps around the Scudder Falls Bridge that were scheduled to begin early Wednesday have been postponed until Friday.

The travel restrictions and detours now are scheduled to begin Friday afternoon, officials with the Scudder Falls Brdige Replacement Project announced on Monday.

Officials said the closures were delayed after the recent heat wave "wreaked havoc" with paving that was planned over the weekend along the I-295 approach lanes to the bridge's newly completed span.

The new bridge has been handling only Pennsylvania-bound I-295 traffic since its opening during late-night hours on July 9. New Jersey-bound I-295 traffic has since crossed the river on the old, "functionally obsolete" Scudder Falls Bridge. It will now continue to cross on the old bridge for an additional two days.
