Snapshot: Sunburst Peeks Through Old Yardley Library
Yardley photographer Josh Friedman captures landscape frames of scenes throughout Bucks County in this Patch photo feature.

Editor's Note —This is a weekly photograph series.
YARDLEY, PA —Call it a Sunstar. Or maybe a Sunburst.
The sun burst through the side of Yardley's "Old Library," next to Lake Afton, last Saturday.

Yardley Photographer Josh Friedman often takes snapshots over the years of the library in different seasons and weather conditions.
Each brings something new, and presently there are some beautiful white flowers next to the building.

To capture a Sunburst or Sunstar, Friedman positioned himself so that the sun was partially obscured by something (in this case, the Old Library). He also used an aperture (shutter size) of f/16, which maximizes the effect. There is no need for any kind of special lens.
As this was a high-contrast scene (the sun was bright, but the library was shadowed), Friedman took multiple exposures, varying my shutter speed. He then merged three of the exposures to create my HDR (high dynamic range) image.
