University Of Rhode Island Rowing To Defend Atlantic 10 Title

The Rams will attempt to capture their 12th Atlantic 10 championship.

KINGSTON, RI — The University of Rhode Island women's rowing team will defend its title Saturday at the Atlantic 10 Championships in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

The Rams will attempt to capture their 12th Atlantic 10 Championship in program history and third in a row when racing begins on the Cooper River with preliminaries at 8 a.m.

Finals are scheduled to start at 11 a.m.

"The Rams will look to hold their place at the top of the conference after fending off second-place George Washington a season ago," the university said in a post on its website.

"Rhody's Varsity 8+ boat defeated the Revolutionaires by less than three seconds to clinch the title a year ago," the post said. "All 11 of Rhode Island's titles have been earned since 2008."

The winner of the title receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, which is being held on Lake Lanier in Gainsville, Georgia, May 27 through May 31.
