Where Rhode Island Ranks For Emergency Medical Care

A recent study revealed how Rhode Island stacks up with the other 47 contiguous states when it comes to emergency medical care.

The study, conducted by the researcher digital health platform MediFind, "analyzed eight health care and emergency response measures across 48 states, including the availability of hospitals, beds, doctors, trauma centers and medical support workers. Insurance coverage, EMS response times and the amount of time patients spend in the emergency room were also included," according to a media release accompanying the results of the survey.

Rhode Island placed 23rd out of 48, the survey determined.

Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota were the top three, while California, Virginia and South Carolina were the worst.

"The study ranks the states best and worst prepared for a medical emergency by analyzing healthcare access, emergency response, and hospital capacity," the release said.
