What would you do if you found a scorpion in your back yard?

You might want to give Robin Snow of Hilltop Avenue in Barrington a call. She found what turned out to be an African emperor scorpion resting in the grass last Friday, July 6, according to the Providence Journal.

Snow thought the scorpion was a piece of trash and almost picked it up before noticing the claws and tail, according to the Barrington Times. The next thing she did was call her husband, David, who thought it might be a large beetle of some kind until he saw a cell phone photo.

The Snows used a shovel to transfer the scorpion to a bucket and then a clear plastic container. They thought the arachnid was a lost pet.

The Snows contacted several agencies before finding the Wildlife Clinic of Rhode Island in Saunderstown, which has taken in the scorpion.

This species of scorpion can be bought and sold legally because it is considered very docile, according to a representative of the wildlife clinic. The scorpion is not considered dangerous and delivers only a mild sting that is barely felt, according to the clinic.
