The lecture takes a look at the “new wave” of planting design with perennials, introduces naturalistic planting design, and explains the basic philosophy and practice of selecting plants to blend with the ecology of the site. Noel has made a particular study of contemporary European planting styles (collaborating on books with leading designer Piet Oudolf), so he is very able to outline how to make successful planting designs that combine structure, a long season of interest, and support for biodiversity and sustainability (reducing or eliminating irrigation and minimizing maintenance). A one-off opportunity to get personal tuition from a world expert in perennial planting.
Noel Kingsbury is a well-known designer, commentator, and writer on plants, gardens, landscape, and the environment. He received his doctorate in horticultural ecology from the University of Sheffield, England, with a focus on the selection and management of ornamental perennials, in which field he still does active research. In between traveling widely, he gives plants and gardens trial runs at his home on the England/Wales border.
There will be a book sale/signing and light refreshments after the lecture.
