Boys Basketball Champs Crowned in Summer Basketball League

Blue win in 11-13 division and Red capture 14-17 title.

Two boys basketball champions were crowned in the Coventry Parks and Recreation Department Summer League finals on Tuesday night.

Blue ekes out 36-32, double OT win for age 11-13 division title victory

The Blue squad came back from a 24-19 deficit to tie the contest at the end of regulation and then finally won, 36-32, in double overtime to capture the age 11-13 championship.

In the first overtime, Blue center Kyle Willette scored on an offensive putback, but Green guard Matt Johnson hit a driving layup for the only other score by either team, forcing a second overtime period.

Then the Blue held its rival scoreless while getting layups from Steve Deignan and Willette to claim the title after the second extra session.

Green trailed, 32-27, late in the second half until point guard Lucas Martin connected on a three-pointer and Johnson swooped inside for a layup to tie the contest, 32-32, in the last minute of regulation.

Brett Rexter, Dallas Kiff and Ben Miller also starred for Green, whose head coach was Jason Martin, assisted by Matt Martin.

Other Blue team members were Steve Davis, Wyatt Boulars, A.J. Vierra, Chad Ricciardelli, Hadaitula Amini, Dyan Chapdelaine, Mike Viveros, Mark Santilli and Noah Boynton. The head coach was Mark Santilli, Sr. and assistant coach was Mike LaMountain.

Torrid shooting by Red overcomes White, 62-49, in age 14-17 championship.

With five different players hitting a combined 11 three-pointers, or over half their points from beyond the arc, the Red squad prevailed over the White, 62-49, to win the 14-17 year-old title. Shawn Pacifico drained 4 treys, Branden Pare 3, Austin Gagan 2 and Matt Vacha and Dan Fiske had one long-distance trifecta each for the champs.

White pulled to within three, 29-26 at the half. Then Red went on a 13-0 run to begin the second half, building as much as a 19-point lead before cruising to the win.

Other Red players who maintained the lead throughout with persistent defense, tireless hustle and good ball distribution included Sean Roles, Joe Hanrahan, Matt Lee and Cody Raposa.

Coaches of the Red championship team throughout the season for the White included Keith Roles, Kevin Flynn and Chris Gagan.

Aggressive double-digit scoring and rebounding and strong dribble drives by Gagan led to the win along with all-around good defense and excellent shooting by all team members

DeAndre Andrews had a brilliant offensive performance for the White with game-high totals of 25 points and six treys, including a 50-foot bomb off the backboard at the end of the game. Zach Anctil scored in double digits and Matt Jimmis was the leading rebounder for the White.
